The Mountain Home VA Healthcare System is seeking a well qualified candidate to serve as a Program Support Assistant (OA) at our William C. Tallent VA Outpatient Clinic in beautiful Knoxville, Tennessee. The selected applicant will support vital programs in the Business Office in the areas of Release of Information, MyHealtheVet Program, and Consult Management. The incumbent will be responsible for the coordination and release of urgent or immediate medical records; implementation, integration, education, coordination, and program management of the MHV Program at the local level; and processing, tracking, and monitoring the local clinic consult referral system. He/She will be considered the resident authority of these areas. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
Releasing all urgent information from medical records at the Knoxville VA Outpatient Clinic, satisfying requests from a variety of sources such as attorneys, law enforcement officials, insurance companies, medical facilities, veterans' service officers, VA Regional Office and from patients (veterans) themselves; Serving as primary authenticator and expert for the MyHealtheVet program, ensuring that Veterans understand the program and applicable rules associated with the program. Responsibilities for this program will include implementation, integration, education, coordination, and program management at this facility; Assuming responsibility for knowledge, processing, monitoring, and procedures of the clinic consult referral system. This will include maintaining a tracking follow-up system to assure referred consults are acted upon within a defined time period; Daily responsibility of computer printouts of current Appointment Lists; Ability to handle administrative functions such as prep work on items to be scanned and handling faxes; verifying/processing Veteran ID cards; new Patient Orientation on a daily basis; assuming backup duties for absent Business Office personnel; and, Ability to manage personal professional training on an annual basis. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
experience handling FOIA requests; experience with HIPAA laws and Privacy Act of 1974; a high level of computer and technological savvy; experience handling scheduling needs for patients at a very busy healthcare facility; responsibility of referral systems at a fully-functional medical facility; project management experience; etc. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical demands are not generally considered taxing. Required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying light materials or objects. High volume peak times can result in periods of stress. Occasionally, veterans may be angry and potentially violent. Must possess the ability to handle stress and potentially harmful situations. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
